Art Roundup – February 2013

Howdy folks. Yet another month, yet another roundup.

Anya Stonelake of the White Space Gallery  in London is holding a short and sweet exhibition of the New Artists, Timur Novikov, Baltic photographers between January 29 – February 2, 2013, titled 12 Russian Winters 12 Baltic Springs.

Erarta Galleries, London, is holding an exhibition of the works of Vladimir Dukhovlinov. Titled Speranza (Italian for ‘hope’), this is a set of spiritually motivated paintings. It runs till February 23, 2013.

Continuing the theme of hope and spiritualism, The Museum of Russian Art in Minneapolis holds ‘Concerning the Spiritual in Russian Art, 1965-2011‘ – a collection of Soviet and post-Soviet examinations of religious experience.

Some superb pictures by the legendary sports photographer Lev Borodulin are to be seen in Moscow at the Multimedia Art Museum: Retrospective (till February 10, 2013).

Indeed – if photography turns you on – there’s more to cheer. Amsterdam’s Fotografiemuseum is holding an exhibition of Early Colour Photography in Russia till April 3, 2013.

And, finally, should you really not want to venture outdoors in these times of climate change, check out the Guardian’s online series of photographs by Andy Freeberg of the “Guardians of Russian art museums“. I thought there might be a babushka or two among them.
