Art Roundup – April 2013

I haven’t done one of these in a couple of months. This time around, there are some goodies indeed.

  1. The Royal Museum of Fine Arts of Belgium, Brussels, is holding an exhibition titled Kandinsky and Russia. It runs till June 30, 2013.
  2. Andrei Bilzho’s cartoons and paintings (‘BILZHO‘) will be shown at the Museum of Modern Art, Moscow from April 16 to May 15, 2013.
  3. Felix Lembersky, a Russian Jewish artist (1913-1970), has his first US exhibition Soviet Form, Jewish Context at the Jewish Museum, Milwaukee, running till July 14, 2013.

Oh, and the increasingly repressive Russian state has brought proceedings against two curators (Andrei Yerofeyev and Yuri Samodurov) who exhibited works that had been removed from Russian museums on political and religious grounds. Victoria Lomasko satirised the Orthodox activists and the political powers in her book ‘Forbidden Art. A Moscow Exhibition‘, and was interviewed by Deutsche Welle. Check it out.
